School of Nursing Distinguished Alumni Award


The School of Nursing Distinguished Alumni Award and the President’s Alumni Award is presented to one alumnus of the UTMB School of Nursing who has made outstanding and widely recognized contributions to nursing in a leadership role. The recipient has made a significant impact on health care in addition to making significant contributions to the nursing profession in clinical practice, education, administration, or organizational work involving health care or innovation in health care delivery systems.

Nominees must be graduates of a recognized nursing program at UTMB School of Nursing. Nominations may be submitted by any interested individual, relative, friend, patient, colleague or fellow alumnus. The Alumni Association Board of Directors is responsible for selecting these prestigious awards.

The UTMB School of Nursing Alumni Association Hall of Fame honors alumni who have made significant contributions to nursing through commitment to excellence in patient care, community service and nursing leadership.

Betty Lee Evans Nursing Excellence Award 

The Betty Lee Evans Nursing excellence Award was established by Dr. E. Burke Evans, a faculty member in the Department of Orthopedics at UTMB, in December 2001.

 Dr. Evans established this award as a lasting tribute to his grandmother and her namesake, his sister, Betty Lee Evans.  His wish was to contribute this gift based on his strong belief of fostering nursing excellence at the bedside.  This endowment acknowledges the clinical achievements of nursing professionals in the UTMB community.

Nominees must be an employee of the UT System. Nominations may be submitted by any interested individual, relative, friend, patient, colleague or fellow alumnus. The Alumni Association Board of Directors is responsible for selecting this award.
