School of Nursing - Alumni

Alumni Recognition Breakfast

The University of Texas Medical Branch School of Nursing, Hospital and Clinic Administration and the School of Nursing Alumni Association have joined together to acknowledge all School of Nursing alumni and their outstanding contributions to patient care within the UTMB clinical enterprise.

May 1, 2002, marked the beginning of the tradition of a recognition breakfast for those alumni employed at UTMB and the presentation of the first Betty Lee Evans Nursing Excellence Award for clinical achievements.

Dr. E. Burke Evans established the Betty Lee Evans Nursing Excellence Endowment in December 2001 as a lasting tribute to his grandmother and her namesake, his sister, Betty Lee Evans. After 50 years of experience in the Department of Orthopaedics, Dr. Evans wished to contribute this gift based on his strong belief in fostering nursing excellence at the bedside. With this endowment, funds will provide support to nursing students and acknowledge the clinical achievements of nursing professionals in the UTMB community.

The UTMB School of Nursing, in a collective endeavor with UTMB Hospital Administration and the UTMB School of Nursing Alumni Association, hosted the third annual Alumni Recognition breakfast on May 5, 2004 acknowledging School of Nursing alumni for their outstanding contributions to clinical health care in the UTMB system.

During the reception, the Betty Lee Evans Nursing Excellence Awards, established by Dr. E. Burke Evans, were awarded to UTMB nurses Nancy A. Johnson, RN, BSN, Nurse Clinician V, Labor and Delivery, and Debbie A. Garcia, RN, BSN, Nurse Manager, PACU/Day Surgery Unit.
