Research Grant Application Instructions

The purpose of the local chapter STTI research grants program is to encourage research by qualified nurses and nursing students who are learning to conduct research to advance knowledge in the area of nursing science.

Qualifications of Applicants 

  1. Have formal preparation in the conduct of nursing research. 
  2. Have an earned baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing. 
  3. Be a STTI member. Non-members can also apply, however preference will be given to STTI members, other ratings and reviews being equal. If the applicant is a student enrolled in a higher degree program in nursing, the student must have direct supervision from a qualified faculty member who meets criterion "1" or "2" above. The supervising faculty's CV must be included with the grant application.

The Application Process: 

  1. Complete the Sigma Theta Tau Chapter Research Grant Application Form provided with these materials.
  2. Complete Sigma Theta Tau Chapter Research Grant Agreement form provided with the these materials. 
  3. Use the "SIGMA THETA TAU RESEARCH FUND PROPOSAL REVIEW FORM" attached here to guide the development of your proposal. Your proposal will be rated according to the specific criteria listed. 
  4. Put your proposal packet together as follows: 
  1. Top page is a cover page for your proposal that includes: 1. The title of your study. 2. Your name, degrees, certifications, affiliation, address, phone number, FAX, and e-mail address. 
  2. Next, attach the completed Sigma Theta Tau Chapter Research Grant Application form. 
  3. Next, attach the completed Sigma Theta Tau Chapter Research Grant Agreement form. 
  4. Abstract page. 
  5. Full proposal (per the guidelines specified in the "SIGMA THETA TAU RESEARCH FUND PROPOSAL REVIEW FORM". 
  6. Supporting materials as specified on page 2 of the "SIGMA THETA TAU RESEARCH FUND PROPOSAL REVIEW FORM".
  1. Make four (4) photocopies of the completed proposal packet. Submit the original and the four (4) copies, postmarked by February 28, 2005, to: Judy Glaister, RN, PhD, President, STTI Alpha Delta Chapter, The University of Texas Medical Branch, 301 University Blvd., Rt. 1029 Galveston, TX 77555-1029, email: juglaist@utmb.edu

Packets not conforming to the format, style, and content will not be reviewed or returned to the applicant. 

  1. Follow the instructions for content and format of the grant proposal.
  2. Font style must be conventional and no smaller than 12.
  3. Do not use bold or italics except for headings.
  4. Number each page of the proposal.
  5. Use APA format in the body of the proposal and in the abstract and reference list.
  6. Do not exceed 10 double-spaced pages for the proposal.

The Review Process Proposals are rated according to the specific criteria provided in the "SIGMA THETA TAU RESEARCH FUND PROPOSAL REVIEW FORM". A score for each proposal is determined on a 100-point basis. The higher the score, the better the rating. Persons reviewing proposals are appointed by the STTI Alpha Delta Research Committee with the approval of the chapter's President.

Notification to Research Fund Applicants

  1. 1. Applicants will be notified in writing of the decision to fund the proposed research by May 1, 2004. The grant applicant will receive a letter from the Chairperson of the STTI Alpha Delta Chapter Research Committee. 
  2. 2. Any grant applicant may make a written request for feedback about his or her proposal, funded or not funded. Letters of request should be addressed to the Chairperson of the STTI Alpha Delta Chapter Research Committee.

Review of the Terms of Award

Each research award recipient is required to: 

  1. Present a report of the completed study at one of the annual programs sponsored by the STTI Alpha Delta Chapter. 
  2. Submit a final report of the project, including the budget, to the President of STTI Alpha Delta Chapter. 
  3. Include in the report to the President an abstract of the completed study, suitable for publication in the Alpha Delta Chapter's Newsletter and on the website. 
  4. Acknowledge STTI and the Alpha Delta Chapter support in all presentations and publications about the study. 
  5. Submit any publications resulting from the project to the Board for placement in the STTI Alpha Delta Chapter Archives
