STUDENT SECURITY SCREENING INFORMATION
Policy for Criminal Background Checks

Effective September 1, 2004 prescreening requirements were introduced into hospital and school affiliation agreements. Students who do not pass these requirements may be unable to complete degree requirements.

Policy: Security Screening For Students
Provided by:

Criminal background checks have been introduced into hospital and school affiliation agreements in keeping with a Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO) standard. Individual institutions have been given the responsibility for mandating this clearance for students. Therefore, in keeping with this policy, all UTMB students will be required to undergo a background check for security clearance for continued enrollment at UTMB.

UTMB has designated PreCheck to do the criminal background screening. Results from any other company will not be accepted. The student will pay the cost of the criminal background screens. It is the student’s responsibility to pay for drug screens if required by a clinical agency. The student will pay the cost at the time of testing.

Students who do not pass the required security check will have their case referred to a review panel appointed by the School of Nursing. That panel will have the responsibility to review the case to determine the appropriate action.

Please follow the instructions from PreCheck. You must pay for the background screen by credit card at the time you complete the form.

Completed background checks may be sent to Marilyn Bradley via email mbradley@utmb.edu.
