Distance Education

UTMB School of Nursing has a commitment to offering high quality educational opportunities to nurses throughout Texas . Distance Education programs are offered by the School of Nursing at the request of and in response to specific needs in a particular area. Nurses who live in areas distant from universities, or who could not leave families and work to commute to classes in Galveston , or travel great distances, have benefited from the distance education program.

Since 1988, UTMB School of Nursing has offered the RN-BSN track as distance education and the Masters of Science Degree since 1992. This program has been successful in graduating nurse practitioners who remain in the areas where they live and work.

Distance Education Programs

These programs are offered through Distance Education in the online format.

  • RN-BSN Track Baccalaureate Program

  • Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Program; also as a Post-Master's

  • Nurse Educator with Clinical Concentration

  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner; also as a Post-Master's

  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner; also as a Post-Master's

  • Nursing Leadership in Complex Health Care Organizations Program

All the programs have been highly successful, and the distance education students perform as well in the courses as the on campus students. Graduates have been successful in passing national certification exams, finding career opportunities in their hometowns, and helping to meet the health care needs of the underserved populations of Texas.

The School of Nursing is currently developing additional distance opportunities.
