BSN Pre Licensure Program
Two options for enrollment:
Spring 2010
Application Due Date: July 31, 2009
JANUARY 2010 START BSN ( 4 semesters)
Fall 2010
Application period opens November 15, 2009 through Feb 15, 2010
AUGUST 2010 START BSN ( 5 semesters)
Beginning 2010 all applicants for Fall Baccalaureate pre-licensure programs ( Bacc2 and BSN ) are required to take the ATI (Assessment Technologies Institute) TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) test and the test of Critical Thinking. The results of this assessment is included in the overall evaluation of your application for admission. These tests can be scheduled through the at an ATI testing site:
PRIOR TO THE TEST:
Go to the ATI testing site at: www.atitesting.com. Register on the site so that you will be ready to begin testing once you arrive for the TEAS. Attached is information on how to register. Select a username and password you will remember. Be sure when you arrive at the testing center that you know these.
Every college-level educational program begins with a solid foundation in Reading, Math, Science, and English and Language Usage. Your previous educational roles might have given you all the preparation you need. However, you might have just gotten by, or perhaps it’s been quite a while since you had to tackle those subjects in school.
ATI TEAS has four parts that ask you to answer multiple-choice questions covering the following:
- Reading – paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences/conclusions (40 items, 50 minutes)
- Math – whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportion (45 items, 56 minutes)
- Science –science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, basic physical principles, and general science (30 items, 38 minutes)
- English and Language Usage – punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words, and spelling (55 items, 65 minutes)
The Critical Thinking test has 40 questions.
ATI also has a study manual available for purchase.
All transcripts should be sent directly to Enrollment Services. Paper copies of transcripts will not be accepted if the issuing institution is capable of sending them electronically. Please note the following regarding the application process:
- Your application, supporting statement and application fee should be submitted online. All application materials must be received in the Enrollment Services office by the posted deadline. Incomplete packets or information received after the posted deadline will not be reviewed.
- Official transcripts from each academic institution must include all grades earned through the last semester attended.
- Applications will only be considered if the student has completed a minimum of 40 of the 60 prerequisite hours.
- Students are notified of the receipt status of their application data by the Office of Enrollment Services; however, it is the applicant's responsibility to ensure all supporting documents have been received. Applicants are encouraged to use E-Connect, UTMB's Student Services Online, for this purpose. Approximately two weeks after the online application and fee have been submitted, a letter acknowledging receipt of the application will be sent by mail. This letter will contain instructions regarding accessing E-Connect to check the status of your application data.
- All applications will be reviewed after the posted deadline.
- Invitations for applicant interviews will be sent by the School of Nursing via email. Interview sessions generally occur 4-6 weeks after the posted deadline.
- Admission letters will be sent from the School of Nursing via regular mail after the posted deadline.
- Applicants must have all prerequisite courses completed by the time of enrollment.
