Baccalaureate Program

The Baccalaureate Program offers students the opportunity to achieve a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (B.S.N.) following a traditional educational approach to training as a Registered Nurse. The Baccalaureate Program includes three tracks: an R.N-B.S.N for registered nurses, an accelerated track (BACC2) and a generic pre-licensure (BSN) track. Since available spaces are limited, admission consideration is given to the most highly qualified applicants. The curriculum for the baccalaureate program focuses on nursing skills and theory, as well as fundamentals of nursing leadership, management, and research, and is taught in the classroom, in laboratories, and in clinical practice settings. The students' experiences in clinical practice areas are designed to prepare them to function effectively in the current health care system. A large variety of clinical facilities are used, including the inpatient, ambulatory, and home care services provided by UTMB at Galveston. In addition, other hospitals, long-term care, rehabilitation, and other community-based agencies in the Houston-Galveston area are used to provide students with opportunities to build a strong foundation in clinical nursing.

The undergraduate program addresses the traditional elements of nursing education and in addition, offers enriching courses specific to:

  • Community Based Care
  • Campus-wide Interdisciplinary Spiritual Care
  • International Interdisciplinary elective courses
