Online BSN to PhD Program

The BSN to PhD program is designed for nurses with a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing. This program prepares students to become researchers, educators, or administrators in nursing. Although students completing the BSN to PhD program do not earn a masters degree in nursing, they do immerse themselves in challenging masters as well as doctoral level courses. A combination of theoretical approaches, delivery modalities including online masters course offerings, stimulating interactions in seminar discussions, and hybrid doctoral level courses provide an environment for scholarly exchanges and student development.

Admission: Applicants to the BSN to PhD Program are required to meet all the admission requirements of the PhD program and have a minimum of one year of nursing experience.  In addition, endorsement of the admission by the masters program director and/or specialty coordinator is required.  Full-time enrollment is required for all students enrolled in the BSN to PhD Program.

For complete Admission Requirements click here.

Program of Study:  Students in the BSN to PhD Education or Leadership programs complete a minimum of 87-88 credit hours.  The program of study includes doctoral level courses and prescribed masters level courses from either the education or leadership program.

BSN to PhD students in good academic standing who decide not to complete the PhD program may withdraw from the PhD program and apply to the masters Education or Leadership programs.  Prescribed UTMB masters level courses and selected PhD courses taken as a part of the Nursing PhD Program may be applied toward the masters degree.
