The Doctor of Philosophy program in nursing is designed to prepare scholars and researchers capable of advancing nursing practice and education. Three focus areas, Biobehavioral, Vulnerable Populations, and Contemporary Pedagogies, characterize the conceptual base of the program and define the program’s scope. These three focus areas provide the structure to develop a plan of study with in-depth knowledge in a specific area of research that will extend the understanding of the promotion of physical, psychological, and social well-being. The three focus areas also are applied within the context of prevention and the maintenance or restoration of health. Students earn a minimum of 63 credits. All required courses, exclusive of the dissertation, can be completed in two years of full-time study.
