ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
- Application: The Nursing PhD application is an online application and can be found at the following web address: https://www2.utmb.edu/utmbapp/app_options.htm. The completed application should be accompanied by the appropriate application fee.
- Transcripts: Transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate courses taken must be submitted. All transcripts must be OFFICIAL or they will not be accepted by the Office of Enrollment Services. BSN and MSN degrees or proof of equivalent degrees are required. Transcripts should be requested by the student from their university, then sent directly to the Office of Enrollment Services.
- Letters of Reference: A minimum of three references is required. The attached form for reference letters shouyld be used. The student should fill out the top part of the form with their name and other relevant information, then the form should be mailed to the potential reference. Upon completion of the letters, the references may be mailed directly to the Office of Enrollment Services.
- GRE Scores: The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) should have been taken within the last five years. If official scores are more than five years old, it will be necessary to re-take the exam and submit current GRE scores. The student should note that they will have to select University of Texas Medical Branch, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. The GRE scores will be routed to the Office of Enrollment Services.
- Resume or CV: A current copy of the student's resume or curriculum vita is required.
- Personal Statement of Goals: A written statement of personal career, educational, and scholarship goals is required. This statement will identify the student's areas of interest in the program to the Admissions Committee as well as define potential goals that may be pursued. The statement can be submitted via the online application on page six or mailed to the School of Nursing PhD Program as a word document.
- Professional Writing: Two writing samples should to be submitted. These samples may include a thesis, a publication, or any paper written in the past, including written proposals or policies.
- TOEFL: Test of English as a Foreign Language entrance exam scores for graduates of foreign universities are required with a minimum score of 550 and a score of 213 on the computer-based exam.
