The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program (NNP) began in 1991 and graduates are working as NNPs in Texas and throughout the United States.  To date, graduates of this program have maintained a 98% pass rate on the National Certification Corporation Boards.

The NNP major is a 46 credit hour program that prepares registered nurses to provide advanced nursing care to critically ill and recovering neonates and their families. All courses are offered on-line and require minimal visits to the Galveston campus.  The major includes 729 clinical hours; and clinical experiences may be completed in the student’s geographic area.

Graduates of the program receive a Master of Science Degree and are eligible to sit for national certification offered by the National Certification Corporation.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY INTO THE NNP PROGRAM:

A minimum of two years of recent experience in a Level III Neonatal ICU is required.

POST-MASTER’S OPTION:

Nurses who have a master’s in another clinical specialty, and have the requisite neonatal nursing experience can enter the program as a post master’s student.  Post-master’s students are required to have either completed—or must take:

  • Advanced Pathophysiology
