Nursing Education Program (Online)

The MSN, Nursing Education Program brings forth the knowledge and attributes necessary to create a student centered learning environment. The challenges of the 21st century encourage nurse educators to explore alternative possibilities to create learning opportunities for students in both real and virtual classrooms, laboratory/clinical and community settings. Currently, it is necessary for nursing faculty to have advanced knowledge, as well as, a creative spirit in order to prepare nursing students entering a dynamic health care arena. The Nursing Education Program offers the graduate student an opportunity to be involved in the learning community in multiple educational environments using emerging technology. The program will build on adult learning principles, nursing and learning theories, curriculum design, and program evaluation in order to develop a learning environment. Legal - ethical aspects of nursing care and education will be included to support decision making for the future nurse educators. Additionally, a clinical experience will provide the MSN candidate the opportunity to confirm and expand knowledge and expertise in an identified area of nursing. The teaching practicum, offered in the final semester, is the capstone course for the program. The course will provide the MSN candidate an opportunity to teach in an academic environment in a selected college or university setting. The Nursing Education Program will promote both evidence based information and a theoretical framework to impact the learning environment.  The overall goal of the program is to provide the educational leadership knowledge and skills for faculty to embrace the student centered academic learning environment.

The educator course sequence may be taken as part of an MSN Degree, post master’s certificate or as a special student. The MSN Degree Program requires 40 semester credit hours without thesis, 44 semester credit hours with a thesis. A sample degree plan is available for the MSN Program.
