The UTMB School of Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner Program began in 1988. The concepts of family and community health provide foundation for the program. US News and World Reports has rated this program among the top 15 FNP programs in the country. For students beginning clinical courses spring 2005, the major includes 672 clinical hours and may be taken as a master's or post mater's program. The master's program requires 52 semester credit hours without thesis, and 56 credit hours with thesis. Sample program plans are available for the FNP Full-Time, FNP-Part-time or FNP-Post-Masters. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for national certification with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Specific Requirements for entry into the Primary Care N. P. Program: A minimum of one year of recent experience as a registered nurse is preferred. |
