The UTMB School of Nursing Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Program began in 1985. The current web-based offering began as a post - masters program in 1998 and now is also available as a master's degree program. All courses are offered online and require minimal visits to the Galveston campus. These visits involve selected clinical experiences and evaluations. Clinical practice in the GNP student role may be completed in the student's local geographic area. The major includes 616 clinical hours. The master's program requires 47 semester credit hours without thesis, 51 credit hours with thesis. Sample program plans are available for the GNP Full-time, GNP-Part-time and GNP-Post Masters. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for national certification with the American Nurses Credentialing Center. |
