The UTMB School of Nursing Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program began as a certificate program in 1972 and became a Master’s Program in 1980. All courses are offered online and require minimal visits to the Galveston campus. These visits involve selected clinical experiences and evaluations. Clinical practice in the PNP student role may be completed in the student's local geographic area. The major includes 630 clinical hours and requires 50 semester credit hours without thesis, 51 credit hours with thesis. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for national certification with the National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurses and the American Nurses Credentialing Center. For applicants to the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program a minimum of 1 year pediatric nursing experience required prior to beginning clinical courses.

 

Specific Requirements for entry into the Primary Care Pediatric N. P. Program:

A minimum of one year of recent pediatric experience as a regisered nurse is required.
